Police investigate homicide in southwest Denver; suspect arrested

DENVER — Police in Denver are investigating a homicide in the southwest part of the city Saturday evening. A 22-year-old suspect has been arrested.

The investigation involves a man’s death in the 1600 block of Hazel Court, Denver police tweeted at 5:20 p.m.

A 911 caller told police that there was a person possibly deceased at Sanderson Gulch Park. Officers arrived to find the victim had been stabbed to death, according to a release from the Denver Police Department.

The suspect, identified Sunday as Joshua Vargas-Belmontes, was located nearby and taken into custody about an hour and a half after the 911 call, police said.

The medical examiner will release the victim’s name and official cause and manner of death at a later time.

The circumstances surrounding the alleged homicide remain under investigation. No other details related to the investigation were released.
