COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – A man faces charges after allegedly cutting a paralyzed man across the face with a machete in a fight Saturday afternoon.

Sean Mantz, 22, is charged with first-degree assault and committing a crime against an at-risk person in the incident, which happened in the 1300 block of Richard Avenue just before 5 p.m. Saturday.

Police were originally called to the home on reports that a man had tried slashing his own throat with a machete – a story that turned out to be far from the truth, according to officers.

The victim, who is paralyzed from the waist down, had a “significant” cut to his cheek, police say.

Mantz and the victim had gotten into an argument, when Mantz grabbed a machete and swung it at the victim’s face, hitting him across the cheek.

The victim was taken to a Colorado Springs hospital and was treated for his injuries, and Mantz was arrested and booked on the aforementioned charges.
