LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A man attempting to rob another person on West Colfax Avenue was struck and killed by a passing car early Tuesday morning, Lakewood police said in a news release.
The pedestrian was fatally struck around 4:30 a.m. on West Colfax Avenue at the intersection of Fenton Street. Responding Lakewood officers arrived and found the deceased pedestrian, an adult male, in the street, the release read.
Witnesses told police that the man killed in the crash was trying to rob another man just before he was hit.
The driver of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation, police said.
They said the driver was not involved in the alleged robbery and charges are not expected against the driver.
Authorities are withholding the pedestrian’s identity pending next of kin notifications.
Lakewood police declined to release additional details surrounding the crash as they continue to investigate.
