DENVER – The district attorney’s office has filed new formal charges against a man accused of driving drunk and killing two people in a crash in February near the intersection of I-70 and I-225.
Ernie Crawley, 39, is accused of killing Brandi Wilson, 24, and Sean Moler, 21, in the early-morning Feb. 18 crash. They were passengers in the vehicle that Crawley allegedly struck with his own when he left his lane on I-70 and hit the other vehicle, causing it to roll.
In addition to the two people killed in the crash, the driver of the other vehicle and a passenger in Crawley’s own vehicle were also injured.
A probable cause statement for Crawley’s arrest said he had slurred speech, bad balance, bloodshot eyes and alcohol on his breath after the crash. It also said that officers determined he was at-fault for the crash.
Crawley now faces two counts of first-degree murder—extreme indifference, two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of vehicular homicide—DUI, two counts of reckless vehicular homicide, four counts of vehicular assault and one count of DUI.
Crawley had already been formally charged in February with vehicular homicide—DUI and other counts, but that original case was dismissed earlier this week because the new case was filed on May 22.
He is next due in court July 27 for a preliminary hearing.
