DURANGO, Colo. – Mark Redwine’s attorney entered a not guilty plea on Redwine’s behalf in a La Plata County courtroom Friday morning as Redwine was arraigned on murder and child abuse charges in the case involving the death of his son, Dylan.
The court appearance was brief. After one of Redwine’s attorneys entered the not guilty plea, Judge Jeffrey Raymond Wilson set pretrial hearings for this fall and scheduled Redwine’s jury trial to begin on Nov. 26.
Redwine, 56, faces felony charges of second-degree murder and child abuse knowingly or recklessly causing death in the 2012 death of his 13-year-old son, Dylan Redwine.
Dylan went missing while on a court-ordered visit to his father’s home near Vallecito Lake outside of Durango during the week of Thanksgiving 2012.
Some of Dylan’s remains were found in June 2013 about 10 miles from his father’s home near Vallecito Lake.
In August 2015, the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office and Coroner's Office announced that Dylan's manner of death had been updated to "homicide" and that Mark Redwine was officially the person of interest.
In mid-July 2016, deputies found “items of interest” after a five-day search for clues related to the boy’s death, but what those items of interest are has never been released.
Redwine, 56, was extradited back to La Plata County last August following his July 2017 arrest in Bellingham, Washington.
Redwine has been held on a $750,000 bond since he was extradited back to Colorado last year.
