DENVER – Police Chief Robert White won’t face charges in the September crash in which he was involved, though the district attorney plans to file charges against one of the other drivers involved in the crash.

The Denver District Attorney’s Office said White was the victim in the three-vehicle crash, which happened the morning of Sept. 29. A driver allegedly hit White’s vehicle while he was on his way to the gym, then hit another vehicle.

All three drivers, including White, were hospitalized after the crashes.

White apologized the next day to fellow officers after he said he had “joked” with Aurora officers who arrived at the scene of the crashes before Denver officers.

“In retrospect, I am concerned that what was meant as a humorous comment was offensive to some officers. For that, I sincerely apologize,” he said in the email at the time.

A Denver Sheriff’s Department review of whether White violated any DPD policies is ongoing.

The Denver District Attorney’s Office said it planned to charge Temesgen Gebremedehin, 35, with third-degree assault, DUI-drugs, leaving the scene of an accident, careless driving resulting in injury and reckless driving. He was allegedly the driver who crashed into both White and the other driver.

He remains hospitalized from the crash, however, and thus, formal charges have yet to be filed.
