Man steals car with child inside, leads Larimer County deputies on 100 mph+ chase

LOVELAND, Colo. — A man has been arrested after police say he stole a car with an 11-month-old child inside and led deputies on a high-speed chase Friday afternoon. 

The child was later found unharmed and reunited with her mother. 

According to a release from the Loveland Police Department, the suspect, identified as 32-year-old Anthony Martinez, stole the car from a gas station located at 814 SW 14th Street in Loveland. 

Five minutes later, a Larimer County Sheriff’s Deputy spotted the vehicle driving south on U.S. 287 and attempted to stop the car, the release read.

At that point, police say Martinez eluded the deputy, accelerating to over 100 mph. A short time later, the deputy ended the pursuit. 

At 3:38 p.m., officers in Longmont spotted the vehicle near the intersection of Parker and Pratt Avenue. The child was found safe inside.

Martinez was located and taken into custody twenty minutes later, police say.

He was taken to the Larimer County Jail and is being held on charges of second-degree kidnapping, two counts of aggravated motor vehicle theft, reckless endangerment, child abuse, driving under the influence - restraint for an alcohol related offense, reckless driving and vehicular eluding.
