NEW CASTLE, Colo. – A man who was shot and killed by Garfield County Sheriff’s Office deputies over the weekend has been identified.
Eric Reynolds, 43, was declared dead at the scene once the Garfield County Coroner responded to the officer-involved shooting on I-70 between mile marker 105 and 109 early Saturday afternoon.
Details of what led to the shooting have not been released, but Denver7 obtained a photo from a viewer showed which showed officers with their weapons drawn and surrounding a vehicle with a person in the passenger side with their hands up.
The Garfield County Coroner said Reynolds died from a gunshot wound; the coroner’s office is investigating the manner of death as a homicide.
Additionally, the coroner said an autopsy revealed Reynolds had multiple gunshot wounds, but only one was fatal.
Other law enforcement agencies are helping the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office in the investigation into the shooting.
