AURORA, Colo. – Police on Wednesday identified the man shot by a Denver officer after a pursuit Sunday through Denver and Aurora.
Keith A. Roberts Jr., 31, was booked into the Aurora Detention Center on possession of a weapon by a previous offender, felony menacing with a deadly weapon and felony vehicular eluding charges. He also faces an additional charge for a felony warrant for drugs that was outstanding when he was arrested.
The Aurora Police Department says the 18th Judicial District may still decide to pursue further charges, however.
Denver police officers were first called to a home in Montbello Sunday around noon on a call that Roberts had allegedly pulled a gun on someone inside.
Roberts fled the scene in a car after police arrived. Officers pursued him down Peoria Street and onto eastbound I-70, and eventually into Aurora’s Robinwood Condominiums.
The Denver Police Department said Sunday that Roberts had allegedly pointed a gun at officers during the pursuit.
It’s unclear what happened in the moments before officers shot Roberts, but DPD said a police cruiser was riddled with bullets.
Roberts was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after being shot, and was booked into jail after he was released from the hospital.
