GOLDEN, Colo. – A man was sentenced Tuesday to 14 years in prison for a shooting that took place at a Walmart parking lot in Lakewood last year.

Kyle Joshua Chaca, 22, is accused of shooting a 33-year-old man following a road rage incident at a Walmart parking lot in Lakewood on August 25, 2019.

Police said Chaca and the victim had an argument, which led to Chaca pulling out a gun and shooting the victim five times. The victim, who spent eight days in the hospital, survived the shooting.

Chaca was convicted of attempted second-degree murder and first-degree assault following five days of trial in August of 2020.

A spokesperson for the 1st Judicial District Attorney’s Office said Chaca’s case was the first felony jury trial held in Jefferson County following the lifting of the COVID-19 court restrictions.
