DENVER – A man accused of stabbing and killing a 17-year-old boy on Colfax Ave. in Capitol Hill in July 2018 has entered into a plea agreement with Denver prosecutors.
Auviauntea Evans, 20, agreed to plead guilty to second-degree murder in the stabbing death of 17-year-old Reese Grant-Cobb, the Denver District Attorney’s Office said Monday.
Evans was originally charged with one count of first-degree murder after he was arrested last September.
According to police, Grant-Cobb was assaulted by Evans and others near the intersection of Colfax Ave. and Pearl St. on the night of July 1 and was stabbed during the altercation. He died at an area hospital.
Prosecutors direct-filed the initial murder charge against Evans about three weeks after the stabbing, but he was not arrested until Sept. 10.
Evans faces between 20 and 40 years in prison as part of the plea deal. He is expected to be sentenced on Sept. 13.
