DENVER — A man charged with the murder of a 26-year-old woman whose body was found in her Denver apartment last summer has pleaded guilty to murder in the second degree.
Esstefan Hamlin, 25, entered his plea Tuesday in Denver District Court. He also pleaded guilty to first degree burglary.
Hamlin killed Cristina Weir in her apartment in the 500 block of 25th Street sometime between July 30 and July 31, 2017, in connection with a burglary of her home and car.
A coworker found Weir inside her apartmenton the morning of July 31. An examination of Weir’s body showed three “sharp force” injuries to her torso.
Police say Hamlin’s mother led them to an arrest in the case. She had called police earlier in the day to report that her son was driving a car that may have been stolen.
Officers tracked down the car and observed Hamlin driving it, according to the probable cause document. On Aug. 1, police took Hamlin into custody and transported him to Denver police headquarters.
Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 21. He faces up to 80 years in prison.
