BOULDER, Colo. – Police are looking for a second suspect who is accused of handcuffing and assaulting employees at a Boulder business and trying to extort them.
The Boulder Police Department says it arrested 45-year-old Daniel Shea Sunday outside of Lyons after he was involved in a standoff with the Boulder County SWAT team.
Police say he and another man, whom police have released a sketch of but not identified at this time, entered a business in the 1600 block of Canyon Drive on Friday and handcuffed, assaulted and threatened several people inside.
Police say Shea “had a previous business relationship with the victims.”
An arrest affidavit for Shea obtained by Denver7’s news partners at the Boulder Daily Camera said that Lyons was from Oregon, and that he and the other man came into the offices of Goozmo, a web design firm based in Boulder.
The employees told officers that Shea and the other man were dressed in FBI gear, with a tactical vest, Taser and other weapons at their side. The Daily Camera reports that Shea and the other men handcuffed two employees.
The newspaper reported that Shea’s company had contracted with Goozmo for a website, but that Shea’s company hadn’t been doing well and Shea wanted his money back. He allegedly used the Taser on the employees and threatened to kill them and their family members, according to the Daily Camera.
After Shea fled, he took shelter in a home outside of Lyons, and was arrested early on Feb. 11. Inside, police found “numerous items of evidence,” the police department said.
He faces investigation on 13 charges, which include first-degree burglary, impersonating an officer, felony menacing, criminal extortion, second-degree kidnapping and others.
But officers haven’t been able to identify the second suspect, who is described by police as a white male who is 5-foot-6, 180 pounds, has dark hair and is in his late-20s or early-30s.
Court records show that Shea’s first appearance is scheduled for Wednesday. He is being held on a $1 million bond in the meantime.
