GREELEY, Colo. (AP) — A man who drove drunk and caused a crash that killed a northern Colorado teenager has been sentenced to 37 years in prison.
Prosecutors with the Weld County District Attorney's Office say 25-year-old Alex Rodriguez, of Dacono, was sentenced Friday for the Thanksgiving Day crash that killed 19-year-old Kyle Nackos, of Severance. Rodriguez pleaded guilty in February to several charges, including vehicular homicide and DUI.
Prosecutors say his blood-alcohol content was 0.146 percent, nearly two times the legal limit for driving, when he crashed head-on into a car driven by 16-year-old Nash Rider, of Windsor. Nackos died at the scene, and Rider is still recovering.
The case marks Rodriguez's second DUI conviction. He pleaded guilty to DUI in 2012 after he crashed his car in LaSalle and passed out on a set of train tracks.
