DENVER – A man was charged with theft after reportedly stealing from the elderly, according to an official with the Denver District Attorney’s Office.

Keith O. Fells, 47, is accused of taking in down payments of more than $500 each from two elderly men in Denver. Fells was reportedly hired to paint the exterior of their homes in 2015 and 2016, but never did.

One of the victims was fined by his HOA for failure to paint the exterior of his home, months after Fells promised to do so, said Ken Lane, a spokesperson for the Denver DA.

“Fells’ alleged explanation for failure to paint the homes in 2015 and 2016 is because of snow,” said Lane. He was charged with two counts of theft-at risk person.

Since his arrest, two more victims have reported to Denver police that they also paid Fells for work that was not completed, Lane added. The victims were not at-risk adults.

The Denver Police Department is encouraging any other victims to contact Detective Leslie Branch-Wise at (720) 913-1488.

The suspect is scheduled to appear in Denver County Court on Feb. 21, 2017 at 8:30 a.m.

Denver7 called the Denver Office of the Colorado Public Defender to get comment from Fells’ lawyer, but has yet to hear back.
