LAKEWOOD, Colo. — Police in Lakewood arrested a man Wednesday morning in connection with a weekend shooting outside a Walmart they believe stemmed from an argument over a parking spot.

Police accuse 21-year-old Kile Joshua Chaca of shooting the victim, Luis Acosta, multiple times in the store’s parking lot, located at 440 Wadsworth Boulevard, around 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

The preliminary investigation found that this was likely an isolated incident that was a result of an argument over a parking space. Two suspects left the scene in a vehicle, police said.

After the shooting, Acosta was transported to the hospital where he remains in the intensive care unit in “stable” condition, police said.

Chaca was taken into custody around 6 a.m. Wednesday, according to police. He was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on suspicion of first-degree assault with a deadly weapon.

The suspect’s booking photo is not being released at this time as witnesses still need to be contacted in this case, police said.
