WESTMINSTER, Colo. — A man police say shot another driver during a road rage altercation Monday in Westminster has been arrested.
Auston Michael Smith, 23, was arrested on suspicion of first degree assault, Westminster police announced Tuesday.
The driver that was shot suffered non-life threatening injuries and was treated and released from a local hospital.
Officers got the call around 1:40 p.m. They arrived in the 10700 block of Sheridan Boulevard and found both drivers at the scene.
Police said the two were involved in a physical altercation before officers arrived, but it had escalated after Smith allegedly produced a handgun and shot the other driver.
The road rage incident that sparked the altercation is not known at this time, police said.
