DENVER – One of the men charged with killing another man after robbing him outside a 7-Eleven on Colfax Ave. now faces new charges after his ankle monitor linked him to a shooting the night before that left three injured, including two young children.

David Houston, 25, already faced felony murder and robbery charges for allegedly robbing, shooting and killing 39-year-old Justin Slyter on July 9.

But Denver District Attorney Beth McCann announced Wednesday that Houston was charged with multiple felonies for a drive-by shooting that happened the night before on N. Titan Court. A 26-year-old man, his 3-year-old son and 6-year-old niece were all wounded in the shooting.

McCann said that the vehicle Houston allegedly used that night “may be” the same one used in the 7-Eleven incident, and that Houston’s ankle monitor placed him at both scenes at the time of the crimes.

Houston now faces new charges in the drive-by: five counts of criminal attempt to commit murder in the first-degree, three counts of first-degree assault, and one count of an illegal discharge of a firearm.

Houston appeared in court Thursday morning for his second advisement on the new charges, and is due in court on Aug. 11 for his status hearing on the murder charge.
