LINCOLN COUNTY, Colo. – The Superintendent of the Karval School District has been arrested and charged with seven counts of Sex Assault on a Child by a Person in a Position of Trust.

Kenneth Cody Weber, 36, was arrested Wednesday, following an investigation by the 18th Judicial District Attorney's Office.

Court documents state that the alleged offenses date back to January 2009, when Weber was still working in Limon.

The arrest is the talk of the town in Limon, and in tiny Karval, where Weber was hired as Superintendent last June.

Karval School Board President Kenny Yoder issued this statement late Saturday night:

"To our knowledge, the allegations were not from anyone in our district and were previous to his employment by the Karval School District."

Shortly after Weber's arrest, the district sent a note to parents saying the Superintendent had been placed on administrative leave and that the school doors would now be locked.

"Our students and staff are our top priority," Yoder told Denver7.

In Limon, Weber taught Agricultural Science and was very involved in the local chapter of the F.F.A.

"He was a good teacher," one parent told Denver7.  "I'm shocked."

Another Limon resident, Elizabeth Zertuche, said, "Part of the reason we ended up moving out here was for the wholesome, small-town environment and then we find out this."

Zertuche, who is the parent of a young child, said she doesn't know Weber personally, but wants to know whether Weber victimized any of his students.

"You send your students to class thinking they're safe," she said, "and they may not be."

Weber was released from the Lincoln County Jail after posting a $100,000 bond.

He is due back in court on December 13.

Karval is located 75 miles east of Colorado Springs and 45 miles south of Limon. Karval RE-23 consists of a small PK-12 campus school with an enrollment of approximately 48 students.
