AURORA, Colo. — Officers called off the search for a person suspected of shooting a juvenile not far from five Aurora schools Thursday afternoon.
An officer on the scene told Denver7 investigators developed leads to help capture the suspect, noting they believe the shooting wasn't random, and the suspect and victim may have known one another.
Police say it's possible the shooting could be gang related, but they said they hadn't yet located the shooter's weapon.
The juvenile suffered non-life threatening injuries following the shooting in the 13000 block of East Jewel Avenue.
Five nearby schools -- Prairie Middle School, Overland High School, Eastridge, Ponderosa and Polton Elementary Schools -- secured their perimeters and locked their doors as police investigated the shooting, but the secured perimeter ended just before 3 p.m.
Police described the suspect as a Hispanic male with slicked back, black hair and black clothing. The person ran from the scene on foot.
