FORT MORGAN, Colo. – Jeffrey Wells, who is Fort Morgan’s city manager, was arrested Saturday on a third-degree assault charge after an incident involving his daughter.
Wells was expected to appear in court Monday afternoon on the misdemeanor charge that stemmed from an incident last year.
In that incident, according to the Fort Morgan Times, Wells’ daughter refused to fasten her seatbelt, and he slammed on the brakes repeatedly, causing her to hit her face on the dashboard. Denver7 has requested the affidavit detailing Wells' arrest.
Wells’ attorney, Brian Bagley, told Denver7 that his client never knowingly or intentionally hurt the girl when pressing on the brakes.
The city posted to its Facebook page on Sunday that “no further information has been provided to the city regarding the case.”
In the meantime, city clerk and city public information officer John Brennan will work as acting city manager in the meantime – a position for which he has filled in before during absences from Wells.
