FORT COLLINS, Colo. – A 36-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday after she tried to kidnap a young boy that wasn’t hers from the Food Bank of Larimer County, according to police.

Patricia M. Robinson, 36, was charged with second-degree kidnapping and second-degree assault after the incident.

According to an arrest affidavit, an 11-year-old boy (The Coloradoan reports the boy was age 9) and his grandfather walked into the food bank sometime around 1:30 p.m. while Robinson was leaving.

But as they passed one another, Robinson stopped at started staring at the boy and calling him her son, according to police.

She grabbed him by his shirt and arm and tried to drag him out of the food bank, continuing to say he was her son, the affidavit says.

Staff had to intervene at one point to separate Robinson from the boy. This came as both the boy and his grandfather repeatedly told staffers they had never seen Robinson.

After the staffer broke them up, she had to stand in between the boy and Robinson. But according to the affidavit, Robinson then grabbed the staffer’s neck with both hands and choked the staffer.

She left the food bank, according to the affidavit, where she was met by police and taken into custody. She continued to claim the boy was hers, police said.

Robinson was still in custody at the Larimer County jail on a $10,000 bond Thursday.
