WASHINGTON COUNTY, Colo. — Less than a month after a deputy was released from his position with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the man turned himself into authorities on warrants of sexual assault on a child.

On Aug. 21, a complaint was filed with the sheriff’s office regarding a possible sexual assault by Deputy Jon Hart, according to the sheriff’s office.

Sheriff Jon Stivers contacted the District Attorney’s Office and requested that they investigate the claim.

Hart was put on administrative leave on Aug. 22 pending the investigation. On Oct. 6, he was released from his position with the sheriff’s office due to the findings of an internal investigation by the sheriff’s office, on other unrelated issues, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

On Tuesday, Hart turned himself into the Logan County Sheriff’s Office on a warrant for:

  • Sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust and pattern of abuse (class 3 felony)
  • Sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust (class 4 felony)
  • First-degree official misconduct (class 2 misdemeanor)

Hart was advised on Wednesday and released on a $50,000 cosigned personal recognizance bond.

Hart joined the sheriff’s office in June 2016.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said it will not release any additional information on this case.
