DENVER – A missing 2-year-old boy from Oregon could be in the Rocky Mountain region after his parents were found dead inside a vehicle in an apparent murder-suicide in Montana, FBI officials said Friday night.

Daniel Salcido and Hannah Janiak, a non-married couple, were reported missing to the Medford Police Department in Oregon on June 11. The couple had a child together: Aiden Salcido, according to the FBI.

The woman, who was criminally convicted for burglary charges in 2018, was scheduled to begin serving her sentence at the Jackson County Jail that day but did not show up for her sentencing.

Investigators who began tracking her down found financial records dating back to June 3 and 4 of this year, when purchases were made at a Walmart in the city of Medford.

According to the FBI, surveillance video caught the couple and the child together leaving with camping equipment among other items.

About 20 days later, on June 24, felony warrants were issued for the woman’s arrest stemming from the burglary case. On July 15, those same warrants were entered for the male suspect.

“Family was concerned for Hannah, Daniel, and Aiden’s welfare as they have made no contact with any friends or family. Hannah was described as a good mother. Family also said the trio were homeless and would camp along the greenway in Medford. Family said that Hannah suffers from mental health issues,” an FBI official said in a statement.

On Wednesday evening, police in Kalispell, Montana, stopped a 1996 GMC Jimmy and contacted a male driver and female passenger who were believed to be giving false information about their identity, the FBI officials said.

During the traffic stop, the vehicle fled, and the driver led officers on a chase. Police spiked the tires and the vehicle eventually came to a stop. When officers approached the vehicle, they found both the man and woman were deceased. The woman was believed to have been shot in the head, and the man had an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, an official with the FBI said.

The deceased couple were determined to be Salcido and Janiak. Two-year-old Aiden was not inside the vehicle, according to authoririties.

“Investigators are greatly concerned for Aiden’s welfare and are asking for the public’s help in locating him safely and expeditiously. Detectives are seeking any information that could assist in locating Aiden,” the FBI officials said in the statement.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Medford Police Department at (541) 774-2258, case 19-10842.
