EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. -- An El Paso County sheriff’s deputy was arrested Tuesday on multiple felony drug charges and has been placed on unpaid administrative leave.

Steven D’Agostino, who will turn 35 on Wednesday, faces counts of introducing contraband in the first degree (a fourth-degree felony), unlawful possession of a Schedule II substance with intent to distribute (a third-degree felony) and one count of official misconduct, which is a misdemeanor.

D’Agostino was a floor security worker at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center Jail—the same facility he was booked into Tuesday after his arrest.

He has been with the sheriff’s office since March 2013 and has been placed on unpaid leave pending his termination, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Though a criminal complaint detailing what led to the charges was not released Tuesday, D’Agostino’s position and the charges generally indicate he was allowing or facilitating the movement of drugs into the jail.
