LAKEWOOD, Colo. – A DUI suspect who fled from police late Friday night ended up crashing at an amusement park minutes later, a Lakewood police official said Saturday.

A police officer tried to stop the black Acura driver who was reportedly driving recklessly in the area of West Colfax Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard at around 11:30 p.m.

The driver fled from police and ran a red light at Sheridan and 17th Avenue but the officer did not pursue him, as per department policy, a news release stated.

About 12 minutes later, Jefferson County deputies notified the Lakewood Police Department that a vehicle had crashed at Lakeside Amusement Park.

Investigators went to the scene and confirmed this was the same vehicle that eluded police earlier.

The driver, Rudolph Valentine Garcia, 33, was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries following the crash.

He will be jailed at the Jefferson County Jail on charges of felony eluding, DUI, driving as a habitual traffic offender and reckless driving following his release from the hospital, according to the news release.
