Domestic violence suspect dies after leading Colorado Springs police on chase

Posted

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – A domestic violence suspect who led Colorado Springs police on a chase two times overnight died Tuesday from gunshot wounds sustained in a confrontation.

Colorado Springs Police Department Officers were responding to a home in the area of Clinton Way and Illinois Avenue at around 5 p.m. Tuesday, looking for a man wanted on felony domestic violence charges, according to our ABC affiliate in Colorado Springs, KRDO-TV.

As soon as they pulled up to the home, they saw the suspect getting inside a vehicle and driving away, which led to the first pursuit of the night.

The suspect then reportedly left the vehicle less than half-a-mile from the home and forced his way inside another house by flashing a gun at the people inside, KRDO-TV said.

Police told KRDO the suspect stole their blue minivan, and led officers on a second chase, which ended when a patrol car slammed into the minivan at Circle Drive and Palmer Park Avenue.

Shots were fired and the suspect was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

No officers were injured in the shooting or the crash. The shooting is under investigation.
