DENVER – A transient was cited with animal cruelty for allegedly getting his 11-week-old puppy drunk last week.
On Sept. 1, around 8:43 p.m., Boulder Police received a call from a vet technician at the Emergency Vet Clinic that a transient got a dog intoxicated and then gave it to a passerby who brought the dog into the clinic, according to Boulder Police Department spokeswoman Shannon Aulabaugh.
The dog, an 11-week-old black and tan female shepherd mix named Stella Luna, may have ingested beer, whiskey and mouthwash, according to the Boulder Daily Camera, who also report police are trying to find an animal clinic that can run blood tests to determine what the animal consumed.
Scott O’Neal, 45, was served a summons on Sept. 3 and has ten days from the date the animal was impounded to request a cost of care hearing.
If O’Neal does not request a hearing, then a motion will be filled by the District Attorney’s Office that forfeits O’Neal’s ownership rights to the dog.
The puppy is currently in possession of the Humane Society of Boulder Valley.
