DENVER — Police in Denver are investigating an officer-involved shooting Friday night that left one suspect dead. No officers were injured.

A pursuing officer shot an occupant of a car that was eluding police after the male suspect took off on foot in the parking lot of the Rodolfo “Corky” Gonzales Branch Library near West Colfax Avenue and Irving Street, according to Denver police.

Earlier in the evening, a Denver police officer spotted the car driving erratically near Federal Boulevard and West Colfax Avenue around 10 p.m. The officer was able to make a traffic stop, but when the officer approached the car and made contact with one of the passengers, the vehicle took off, police said.

The suspect vehicle, with at least two occupants, was later spotted from the air by DPD’s Air One unit, the car parked in the library parking lot. Officers were dispatched to the area and made contact with the occupants when one of the suspects, an adult male, took off on foot.

After the shooting, the man was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. It's unclear if the suspect was armed.

Other details surrounding the shooting, including the identity of the suspect who was shot or the officer who fired their weapon, has not been released.
