Denver police investigate homicide after woman found dead; suspect arrested

DENVER — Police in Denver are investigating a homicide on the city’s west side early Saturday morning. A suspect has been arrested.

The homicide occurred in the 5000 block of West Colfax Avenue, according to a tweet sent at 1:25 a.m. from the Denver Police Department.

The victim is an adult female, police said. A suspect, identified as 49-year-old Israel Casarez, is in custody.

Police said the victim, who was later identified as 55-year-old Dina Casias, was stabbed to death during a domestic violence incident. The Office of the Medical Examiner said her cause of death was from sharp force injuries, and her manner of death was homicide.

Casarez is being held at the Denver Detention Center on first-degree murder charges.
