CPW asking for public's help gathering information on wildlife crime near Fort Collins

FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Officials with Colorado Parks & Wildlife are asking for the public’s help after they found a dead large, headless elk that had been shot between Sunday evening and Monday morning.

CPW said the large bull had been shot and then somebody removed its head. The crime occurred in the Poudre Canyon on Highway 14 near mile marker 94.

It is a felony offense to kill and abandon big game, remove only trophy parts and leave the carcass in the field.

Officials are seeking information regarding the shooter, vehicle or other details. Anybody with information is encouraged to call the Fort Collins CPW office at 970-472-4300. These reports can be made anonymously through Operation Game Thief by calling 1-877-265-6648. A reward of $500 is offered for information on cases involving big game or endangered species.
