COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Officer Cem Duzel continues to improve after being shot last week, the police department said Thursday afternoon.
The Colorado Springs Police Department said Duzel “is taking some breaths on his own” as he continues to improve. He is still in critical condition but is stable after undergoing some procedures Wednesday, the department said.
“Cem’s family is humbled and appreciative for all of the kind messages of encouragement and support from our department and the community,” police said in a Facebook post.
Karrar Noaman Al Khammasi, 31, appeared in court Thursday for an advisement hearing. The Iraqi refugee is being held on a $1 million bond and has been charged with attempted murder of a peace officer after deliberation, felony menacing and a felony weapons possession count.
