COMMERCE CITY, Colo. – A sexually violent predator from Colorado with a history of sex assault on a child remains at large Friday after cutting his ankle monitor off on Monday, and authorities are still actively looking to find him.

Robert Jake Chavez, 38, is on parole but ran off Monday after removing his ankle monitor.

The Colorado Department of Corrections said Tuesday Chavez was last seen near Pioneer Park in Commerce City.

Described as a white/Hispanic man who is 5-foot-11 and 260 pounds, with short brown hair and brown eyes, Chavez has a lengthy criminal history in Colorado, including a conviction for sex assault on a child.

He pleaded guilty in February 1999 for trespassing, and was back in court a few months later, when he pleaded guilty in April of that year to DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, and second-degree aggravated vehicle theft.

A few months after that, in November 1999, he pleaded guilty to theft.

In July 2004, Chavez pleaded guilty to aggravated motor vehicle theft, and in December 2004, he pleaded guilty to felony menacing with a weapon and aggravated theft of a motor vehicle and was sentenced to 5 years in prison.

He pleaded guilty in April 2005 to sex assault on a child, and pleaded guilty in August 2016 to disorderly conduct, and received a 45-day sentence.

The state department of corrections has not given an update on where he might have gone since he was known to be at the Commerce City park on Monday.

Anyone who sees him is asked not to approach Chavez and to call 911 immediately.
