Colorado jury awards $3.6M to man assaulted in nursing home

DENVER (AP) — A Colorado jury has awarded $3.6 million to a 76-year-old retired school teacher with dementia who was assaulted by another resident at a senior living center in a Denver suburb.

The Denver Post reports an Arapahoe County jury this week ordered Peregrine Senior Living in Aurora to pay Robert Fisher and his wife Bonnie Fisher.

The Fishers' lawsuit claimed a resident had bitten and attacked Robert Fisher in January, but staff members lied to Bonnie Fisher, telling her that her husband had fallen.

The lawsuit also claimed the facility was dishonest about its caregiver-to-resident ratio as it had two staff members during the day to care for more than two dozen residents.

The center did not immediately return the newspaper's message seeking comment Thursday.
