AURORA, Colo. – The boy who was shot in the parking lot of the Sable Technological Center Monday morning in Aurora has since died, police said Tuesday morning.
Police have not identified the juvenile or released his age, saying only on Monday that he was under the age of 18.
Colorado Early Colleges said Tuesday afternoon that the boy was a student at CEC Aurora but that the shooting took place off-campus.
“This is a heartbreaking loss for the CEC community. The death of our student has left us all grief-stricken. We are arranging to have grief counselors available on campus to support our staff and students,” said Sandi Brown, the Chief Executive Administrator of the Colorado Early Colleges network.
The CEC Aurora campus is closed Tuesday and Wednesday to students. Staffers are asked to return on Wednesday and students will return Thursday. There will be grief counselors available both days.
Officers were called out to the area of 562 Sable Blvd. on a report of gunfire just before 11:40 a.m. Monday.
When they arrived they found the boy on the ground of the parking lot with a gunshot wound. He died after being transported to an area hospital.
Aurora police spokesperson Crystal McCoy said Monday that there was one suspect at-large but that there was no threat to the public. She did not elaborate in Tuesday morning's news release.
Police continue to ask anyone with information about the shooting or who witnessed it to contact Agent Miller at 303-739-6117 or Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP.
