BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. – A woman arrested on domestic violence-related charges and accused of firing a shotgun at her common-law husband has been exonerated and the husband has been arrested, officials said.

Investigators say a 28-year-old man reported that he was at home when his common-law wife, 36-year-old Elena Marie Michael, became irate with her husband over a relationship issue.

The man told investigators that an argument through a locked door ensued and Michael eventually broke through the door and assaulted her husband with a closed fist, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

The man said he was able to break-away and ran outside to his parked vehicle, according to deputies, who said he saw Michael going after him with a shotgun, which she fired upon him.

But investigators later determined that Michael "could not have been in the area when the shot was fired," a news release from the Boulder County Sheriff's Office said June 19.

Nicholas Antley, 29, was later accused of lying to authorities and arrested on several charges: attempt to influence a public servant (Class 4 Felony), three counts of possession of weapons by previous offenders (Class 6 Felony), violation of bail bond conditions (Class 6 Felony) and false reporting to authorities (Class 3 Misdemeanor).
