ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. – A wanted man held up inside an Arapahoe County home during a 7-hour standoff was found dead after authorities made entry into the home Monday afternoon.

Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office was called to assist Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force on a wanted subject in the 16200 block of E. Otero Avenue around 7:30 a.m.

When authorities arrived on scene, the wanted man barricaded himself inside the residence. Attempts to contact the suspect or force him from the home were unsuccessful. When deputies were able to access the home at about 2:20 p.m., they found the man deceased. His cause of death has not been released.

While no schools were directly affected, bus routes for three schools did have the potential to be impacted. Cherry Creek Schools staff members stationed at the bus stops to facilitate student movement, especially for elementary school children, a release said.

Identification of the deceased will come from the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.
