AURORA, Colo. – Police briefly put a secure perimeter around Sable Elementary School Wednesday morning while the searched for a suspect in a deadly shooting that happened nearby, who was still outstanding as of Wednesday afternoon.
The shooting happened around 11:15 a.m. near the intersection of E. Montview Blvd. and Billings Street – just east of I-225. It originally came in as a shots-fired call from an Adams County deputy who was on a different investigation nearby.
Police said they had sent phone alerts to people in the area to shelter in place as the department’s SWAT team searched for the suspect.
The victim of the shooting was transported to a nearby hospital, police said, but was pronounced dead.

After a search, the suspect was not found. The secure perimeter at Sable Elementary has been lifted.
