Armed suspect killed by Loveland police identified by coroner

LOVELAND, Colo. – An armed suspect who was shot and killed by Loveland police earlier this week has been identified by the Larimer County Coroner.

Stephen Rich, 48, of Loveland, was shot by several officers after he allegedly fired his gun near Namaqua Park at around 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Police said they were investigating an attempted traffic stop and crash in the area at the time.

Rich was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. There were no other injuries from this shooting.

An autopsy found Rich’s cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds. The manner of death was declared to be homicide, according to the Larimer County Medical Examiner's Office. 

Police have not released the identities of any of the officers involved in the shooting.
