COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder after a burglary suspect was shot and killed in Commerce City early Monday morning.

It happened around 4:50 a.m. in the area of 10700 Belle Creek Blvd.

Police said multiple male suspects were burglarizing Haraf Foods Market, a neighborhood convenience store, when William Paul Schuette, who police say resides in a nearby apartment unit, allegedly opened fire on the suspects. Police said Schuette admitted to them that he opened fire.

One of the suspects, a Hispanic male, was struck. According to the Commerce City Police Department, police found him deceased inside a vehicle that had crashed into several other cars nearby.

Two other burglary suspects ran from the area, police said. A juvenile male was apprehended and detained for questioning.

Police said there does not appear to be any additional victims or threats to the community at this time.
