LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. – An animal control officer in Larimer County underwent surgery over the weekend after he was mauled by two dogs on Saturday.

The animal control officer was helping the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office after officials failed to make contact with a homeowner in the 8200 block of East County Road 18 to follow-up on a previous incident, according to Larimer County Deputy Paige Robertson.

As the animal control officer was leaving, he was attacked by two dogs. He sustained serious injuries, according to Robertson.

Deputies and additional animal control officers arrived to the home and secured the animals. Officials did not release further description of the animals.

The injured officer was taken to a local hospital where he underwent surgery. That officer was listed as stable.

The sheriff’s office is leading the investigation into the attack, saying there is no safety concern for residents in the area
