WELD COUNTY, Colo. – A Fort Lupton man arrested early Thanksgiving morning following a deadly DUI head-on crash on I-25 near Highway 7 was formally charged Wednesday by the Weld County District Attorney’s Office.

Alex Pablo Rodriguez, 25, is charged with vehicular homicide, vehicular assault and driving under the influence.

Dispatch received several calls from citizens reporting a gray Jeep going the wrong way in the northbound lanes of Interstate 25 near Highway 7 on Nov. 24. The driver of that Jeep was later identified as Rodriguez.

Minutes later, a Weld County deputy attempted to get Rodriguez’s attention by turning on emergency lights, but reports show he continued down the wrong lanes.

Rodriguez ultimately crashed head-on with another vehicle, driven by Nash Rider, 16, of Windsor, near milepost 231.

Rider was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Rider’s current condition is unknown.

His passenger, Kyle Nackos, 19, of Severance, was pronounced dead at the scene around 3:19 a.m. as a result of injuries he sustained in the crash.

Rodriguez was also taken to the hospital for minor injuries and later booked in the Weld County Jail, where he remains on a $100,000 bond.

Rodriguez will make his first formal court appearance on Dec. 15 at 8:30 a.m.
