A dozen shootings reported around Denver metro, northern Colorado in 30 hour-span

Despite Tuesday's near-constant snowfall, gunshots rang out across the Denver metro area and northern Colorado over a 30-hour span, resulting in a dozen reported shootings — five of which were fatal — and one police shooting in which a suspect was killed.

The shootings also came after six people were shot over the weekend in the metro area — two of whom died.

As of Wednesday at 11 a.m., all of the below shootings are still under investigation.

Monday, Jan. 25

Denver — 4800 block of Quivas Street — Monday evening

Denver police responded to a shooting along the 4800 block of Quivas Street, the department tweeted at 7:44 p.m. One man was transported to a hospital with unknown injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.

Aurora — 1300 block of Alton Street — Monday evening

On Monday around 9:34 p.m., Aurora police responded to the 1300 block of Alton Street on a report of a man who had been shot. When police arrived, they found a man with an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to a hospital, where he died. He has not been identified.

Investigators with the Aurora Police Department responded to the scene and are actively investigating to gain more information on the suspect or suspects, and events that led up to the shooting.

Denver — E. 45th Avenue and Peoria Street — Monday evening

The Denver Police Department tweeted at 10:53 p.m. that they were investigating a shooting at E. 45th Avenue and Peoria Street. One injured man had transported himself to a hospital. The extent of his injuries was unknown.

Officers are continuing to gather information regarding this case.

Tuesday, Jan. 26

Lakewood — 6205 W. Colfax Ave. — Tuesday morning

At 2:43 a.m., Lakewood police were called to the Blue Sky Motel located at 6205 W. Colfax Ave. after receiving reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a 29-year-old Hispanic man with apparent gunshot wounds. He died of his injuries, police said.

Lakewood police said Wednesday afternoon they had arrested a suspect, but further information was not immediately available.

The victim was identified Thursday as Geronimo Alvarado, 29.

Lakewood police said Thursday that the suspect in the deadly shooting, identified as 34-year-old Julian Joel Rivera, was arrested in Castle Rock on Tuesday evening.

Adams County — E. 25th Avenue and Imboden Road — Tuesday morning

One woman died in a police shooting in Adams County early Tuesday morning.

Sgt. Adam Sherman, a spokesman for the Adams County Sheriff's Office, said at 12:18 a.m. Tuesday, deputies with the sheriff's office located a stolen gray Jeep traveling westbound on Interstate 76 near E. 88th Avenue.

The deputies began to pursue the driver, but eventually lost sight of the vehicle, Sherman said.

They eventually found it again, abandoned, around E. 25th Avenue and Imboden Road.

Deputies searched the area and located two women — one of them was the suspect.

Sometime during this interaction, deputies learned that the suspect had a gun, and she was fatally shot, Sherman said.

Investigators talked with witnesses and other involved people and deputies. Other details around the circumstances of the shooting were not available.

Commerce City — 6400 block of E. 64th Place — Tuesday morning

Officers with the Commerce City Police Department responded to the 6400 block of E. 64th Place on a report of a person who had been shot at 9:42 a.m. When they arrived, police found a man with what appeared to be a gunshot wound.

The man was unconscious and was transported to a hospital.

Around 4:10 p.m., police said they were attempting to reach the driver of a black truck that had metal fencing around the bed of the truck and possibly a dolly on the roof. The driver was a male and was last seen driving southbound on Monaco Street toward E. 62nd Avenue, police said. The driver should be considered armed and dangerous.

Adams County — W. 53rd Place and Sheridan Boulevard — Tuesday morning

A man and a woman were shot while apparently checking out at the Dollar General store in the 5300 block of Sheridan Boulevard around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. The sheriff’s office said they were looking for a man and a woman who are suspects in the shooting, both of whom were still outstanding as of Wednesday morning. They left the scene in a black BMW sedan, the sheriff’s office said. Click here to read more.

Denver — Broadway and Virginia — Tuesday afternoon

One man was taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound after a shooting near the intersection of Broadway and Virginia in Denver. Denver police said Wednesday evening the man had died from his injuries at a local hospital.

On Thursday, the Office of the Medical Examiner identified the man killed as Edgar Arambula Barreras, 20, and said his cause of death was a gunshot wound.

The investigation is ongoing, and DPD asks people with information to call Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.

Greeley — 1401 9th St. — Tuesday afternoon

Greeley police said one person was shot near the 7-Eleven at 1401 9th Street. They were taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police said Tuesday no one was in custody and asked people with information to call Greeley PD Det. Cash at 970-350-9691 with information.

Denver — Broadway and Irvington — Tuesday evening

Just after 6 p.m. Tuesday, Denver police said they were on scene of another shooting near Broadway and Irvington Place. One person was shot and taken to a nearby hospital. Police have not released further information.

Denver — 14500 block E. Maxwell Place — Tuesday night

Denver police said just before 9 p.m. they were investigating a shooting in the 14500 block of E. Maxwell Place. At the time, one person was transported to a hospital for gunshot wounds. Aurora police said later in the night that a man had arrived in critical condition at a hospital in Aurora but that they did not know where he was shot or why.

APD later said that man was shot during the incident at East Maxwell Place as well. Then, Denver police tweeted Wednesday morning that the original man transported – who was a juvenile male – had died at the hospital.

On Thursday, the Office of the Medical Examiner identified the person transported from the scene, who later died, as 16-year-old La'Zic Abraham and said his cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds.

DPD said no arrests had been made and asked people with information to call Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.

Wednesday, Jan. 27

Denver — 5500 block E. Colfax Ave. — Early Wednesday morning

Denver officers responded to a call about a person lying on the ground in the 5500 block of E. Colfax, police tweeted at 1:59 a.m. Paramedics found the person had been shot. Police said later Wednesday morning the victim, an adult male, was taken to the hospital, where he died. DPD said officers were investigating the case as a homicide and that no arrests had been made.
