DENVER — A 24-year-old man has been charged in the killing of a 40-year-old woman in Denver earlier this month, officials said Thursday.

Jose Sandoval-Romero was charged with murder in the death of Ariana Wolk, according to the Denver District Attorney's Office.

Police found Wolk dead at her home in the 1500 block of Oneida Street on July 3. She had been stabbed in the neck and was in her bed when police and paramedics arrived, according to the district attorney's office.

Detectives found video from the night of Wolk's killing that showed her with Sandoval-Romero, who was seen holding a clear cup with pink liquid, the district attorney's office said. The cup was found in Wolk's yard and fingerprints from the cup matched Sandoval-Romero's fingerprints from a July 7 arrest in Colorado Springs.

Investigators interviewed Sandoval-Romero, and he admitted that he stabbed Wolk, fled the scene and got rid of his bloody clothes before going to Colorado Springs, according to the district attorney's office.

An arrest warrant affidavit did not say how Sandoval-Romero and Wolk met but they were seen together in the area of East Colfax Avenue and Monaco Street earlier that day.

Sandoval-Romero is scheduled to appear in court for an advisement hearing Friday.
