EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. — A 2-year-old boy died after he was fatally shot on Sunday in El Paso County.
Jacqueline Kirby, public information officer with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, said the boy was shot on the 1500 block of Hartford Street around 5 p.m. and died at a hospital.
Kirby said the sheriff’s office is still investigating how the boy was shot.
In an interview with KRDO, Kirby said firearms should always be kept far away from children.
"For people that own firearms to always make sure they are unloaded, they are locked, and they are out of the reach of children so we can prevent tragedies," she said. "But again, we don't know if that's exactly what happened last night."
More information on this incident is expected Monday.
