PUEBLO, Colo. – A stabbing suspect is dead after a Pueblo Police Department officer used what the department described as “deadly force” against the suspect following a disturbance call in Pueblo on Wednesday.

At around 3:45 p.m., officers went to a home in the 12000 block of E. Abriendo Avenue after receiving reports of a stabbing, according to a spokesperson with the Pueblo Police Department.

Initial reports of the call to police stated that a disturbance between two men was taking place at the home, but that was later updated prior to the officers’ arrival, the spokesperson said.

Police said in a statement that the “first officer to arrive at the residence used deadly force against the stabbing suspect, who died on the scene.”

The victim of the stabbing was taken to a hospital for treatment. He died some time later from his injuries.

The officer who used deadly force sustained a minor injury for which he was treated and released.

The identities of the suspect and victim will be released by the Pueblo County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family

The officer who used deadly force will be place on paid administrative leave per department policy
