DENVER -- Denver Police officers are looking for a gunman after one person died and another was injured overnight on East Colfax Avenue.

The shooting was reported in the area of East Colfax Avenue and Pennsylvania Street at around 2:05 a.m., according to a tweet sent out by Denver police.

Police also said there could be more than one suspect on the loose, but have no other information that could identify the suspect or suspects they are looking for.

Both victims in this shooting were identified as men, with the surviving victim listed as suffering a non-life threatening injury.

Denver7 spoke with residents living in a complex above Saturday's crime scene. Many said they are fed-up.

"It's either gang fights, drugs, stabbings, or murders. It's just absolutely out of control," Steven Liquori said.

He said DPD's blue evidence markers along the sidewalk only temporarily replaced the group of people who normally spend their day accosting others.

Another resident said she's witnessed people walking into the street -- maneuvering around that same group of people.

The homicide investigation unfolded only two blocks from Denver's District 6 Police Station. We reached out to District 6 Commander Ron Saunier to ask him about problems along East Colfax. He said the department hears the community loud and clear.

He told Denver7 reporter Amanda del Castillo he's attended three community meetings in the last month, focusing on improvements.

DPD is refocusing resources and will dedicate more officers on bike and foot patrol to the problem area.

Commander Saunier said DPD has made significant drug arrests in the last month. He said the department took three armed dealers into custody.

Police believe there was a disturbance among a group of individuals that led to the shooting.
