DENVER — A Colorado mother and her youngest son are slowly improving as they recover in the hospital from what police are calling a road rage shooting.

“Both Meg and Asa are working hard at healing and resting. They are fighters,” read a June 20 journal entry from the fundraising website CaringBridge.org.

Police say Jeremy Webster, 23, shot 41-year-old Meghan Bigelow and her two sons at a Westminster office park June 14 in a road rage incident. Vaughn Bigelow, 13, died in the shooting. A third son of Bigelow’s was not injured.

The journal entry, authored by Ali Fitz, states that Asa had a “better day” after an “up and down day” the previous day.

“We were all so excited to get to see him as the little boy we love so dearly. Currently he has a tracheotomy so he isn't able to speak yet, but he was able to communicate a little by nodding his head,” Fitz wrote.

The author wrote in a previous entry, dated June 19, that Meghan remains in the intensive care unit but is showing progress.

“Today she had her second day of PT. This meant that her workout was to sit up in a chair. She was ready for rest when they allowed her to lay down again. She is also starting to eat soft foods like applesauce,” she wrote.

A search warrant obtained by Denver7 last week showed that Webster confessed to the shooting and claimed to have mental health issues, though that has not been independently confirmed.

GoFundMe page for the Bigelow family had raised $166,000 toward a $200,000 goal as of Thursday morning.
