The Colorado Springs Police Department issued an arrest warrant for another suspect involved in the shooting of 19-year-old Alijah Vialpando.

On July 8, police served Gage Kohler, 21, an arrest warrant while held in custody at El Paso County Jail for charges unrelated to this investigation.

Police earlier identified 19-year-old Kellen Fortune as a suspect in the shooting death of Vialpando back in November on the north side of Colorado Springs.

The department said Fortune was identified as the shooting suspect on June 12 of this year after conducting interviews and executing "a dozen warrants" in the homicide investigation.

Officers responded to the shooting on Nov. 5, 2019, and found Vialpando in a crashed vehicle in a parking lot located in the 2700 block of Briargate Boulevard. CSPD said their investigation revealed that an adult man was in a parking lot in the 2600 block of Briargate when shots were fired. Vialpando then drove north across Briargate, jumped a curb, and came to rest in the parking lot.

Fortune was located in Billings, Montana, and the department coordinated with the U.S. Marshals Montana Violent Offender Task Force to arrest him.

The federal officers found him June 18 when the exchange of gunfire occurred. Our station in Billings, Montana, KTVQ reportedFortune opened fire on members of the U.S. Marshals Montana Violent Offender Task Force who were there to arrest him on a warrant.

Police said Fortune died as a result of the shooting and no federal officers were injured.

CSPD said the homicide investigation is still an active investigation at this time. Anyone with information is asked to call the Colorado Springs Police Department at (719) 444-7000; or if you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers Tip Line at (719) 634-STOP (7867) or 1-800-222-8477.
