JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — The fates of students, educators and parents in Jefferson County will be decided soon.
During Tuesday's school board meeting, the board announced it will make a decision on full-time in-person by the end of the week.
"The hardest part is you feel really isolated when you’re at home," said Teagen Eisenring, a sophomore at Conifer High School.
Eisenring has missed the classroom and her friends. She's ready to go back to school full time.
"It’s been really hard with online learning," Eisenring tells Denver7.
JeffCo Schools adopted a hybrid approach for the older students. On Mondays and Tuesdays, Eisenring is in the classroom, the rest of the week, she's learning from home.
"My students and the students at my school are very very good at following all the guidelines and the stuff we need to be able to do the return to in-person, so I think we should be able to do that," said Eisenring.
While she may want to go back, students at Lakewood High School started a petition asking the school board to not move forward with reopening full-time until the start of the next school year.
Laying out several bullet points including that, "Teenagers will not get the vaccine until fall of 2021. Until then we are both vulnerable ourselves to contracting COVID-19 and spreading it to our families and community, many of whom are immunocompromised or medically fragile."
We spoke to a teacher off-camera who says he and some of his co-workers are concerned about returning to school full-time without a full plan in place.
JeffCo School District did not return our request for comment.
